Each parish in Louisiana has a Board of Election Supervisors who oversee the process of every election in their parish. This includes the drawing of Poll Commissioners, the selection of early voting Commissioners, sealing of early voting and election day voting machines, election day activities at the polls, the counting of absentee by mail ballots and the votes at the polls.
Board member responsibilities include the selection, at random, of qualified Commissioners to staff each precinct. The Board also meets once a year to select all the Commissioners-in-Charge for each precinct in the parish. During an election, the Board convenes to count absentee ballots, and after an election meets again to officially certify the election results.
